FAQ

How can I get funding?
Contact your LA for information about funding for ITT.  You will be eligible for a non-means tested grant of £1200 towards your living costs.

You may also apply to the Student Loans Council (SLC) for a fee loan towards your tuition fees.

Do I need a PGCE to teach?

No, you do not need a PGCE.  The qualification required to teach in England and Wales is QTS (Qualified Teacher Status).  Bromley Schools' Collegiate's teacher training course leads to the award of QTS.  We will also offer you the opportunity to gain 30 credits towards a Masters degree.

When should I apply for teacher training?

Bromley Schools' Collegiate begins recruitment for the SCITT course from November to May.  However, we continue to accept applications in shortage subjects right up until July.  We operate a waiting list and will contact candidates should a a place became available.

Do you offer Primary training?

We are a secondary provider. If you are interested in training to teach in primary schools, contact the TDA for a list of primary providers near where you live: www.tda.gov.uk or 0845 6000 991

Employment based routes (Graduate Teacher Programme)

If I apply for the GTP, how much salary can I expect to be paid by the school?

The employing school will pay you on an unqualified or qualified teacher’s salary (anywhere from £17,150 depending on your responsibilities, experience and location).

There is also a self-funded option available, by which the school will meet the costs of the GTP. To find out whether this option is available to you, you will need to enquire at your local GTP provider, known as an employment-based initial teacher training (EBITT) provider.

I want to apply to Bromley Schools' Collegiate but I live out of the area? Am I still eligible?

Yes, you are eligible. However, there is an expectation that you would be able to travel easily to and between our partner schools.  Schools start early in the day and finish late, so you would need to arrange child care, journey times and transport links in good time
