Taster Days for Teaching
The next scheduled date will be 22 - 24 November 2010
If you are undecided about whether a career in teaching is right for you, you may want to spend a few days in a secondary school to get the feel for school life in a busy working environment.
Bromley Schools’ Collegiate offers 2 Taster courses, one in November and the second in March. To help you to make a well-informed decision, we will give you information on routes into teaching, including employment-based routes. You will also have opportunities to meet Newly Qualified Teachers who have completed their training with Bromley Schools' Collegiate and are now employed in school.
Typically, the 3 day course will follow the following programme:
Day 1, an introduction to
- Teaching and learning – what makes a good teacher
- Roles and responsibilities
- How to get the best from your school visit
Day 2 and Day 3 will be spent in 2 different schools in order to give you a broad range of experience. The school experience will provide the opportunity to gain an understanding of:
- The work of a teacher
- The process of planning for teaching and learning across the age and ability range
- The roles and responsibilities of other colleagues in the school
- The wider curriculum
The contribution you could make (as a serving teacher), to the extra-curricular activities of a school.
The final session on the afternoon of Day 3, provides an opportunity to:
- Review and evaluate your experience of the Taster course
- Obtain individual careers advice and support
- Obtain advice on applications and interview for ITT courses
- Agree an action plan
During the final session, you will be asked to complete an evaluation card supplied by the Teacher Training Agency and a course evaluation from Bromley Schools Collegiate.
