Welcome to Bromley Schools' Collegiate

School Centred Initial Teacher Training (SCITT) awarded "Outstanding" status by Ofsted (2009), recognising the highest quality of teaching training provision. |
We offer 2 school centred routes for post-graduates who wish to teach in secondary schools. The course leads to the award of Qualified Teacher Status with the opportunity to gain Masters accreditation.
The SCITT course is full-time for one academic year (September to July). Trainees spend all their time in 2 Bromley school placements and are assigned an experienced subject teacher as their individual mentor to support them through each placement.
The course is eligible for funding Student Finance England. Trainees are liable for tuition fees to the training provider, £9000 from September 2012 subject to agreement from offa. Visit www.direct.gov.uk for comprehensive information.
Entry requirements are:
Maths and English GCSE at grade C, and a good degree, which should be 50%* in the subject which the applicant wishes to train to teach.
* Exceptions may be made in shortage subjects such as Maths, Physics, Chemistry and MFL.
Candidates must however, demonstrate that they have sufficient subject knowledge to teach the subject according to the National Curriculum.
Candidates may wish to join ' enhancement' courses to increase their subject knowledge, prior to an ITT course. Details can be found on the TDA website: www.tda.gov.uk/recruit
Offers of places will be made on an unconditional or conditional basis, but the Collegiate reserves the right not to discuss with applicants the reasons for not calling individuals to interview or not offering a place after interview.
Bursaries available:
From September 2012 the amount of bursary paid to trainees will be linked to the subject they are being training to teach and the grade achieved at degree level. See table below for details. The TDA will inform providers shortly with further detail on the operation of 2012/13 bursaries.

The Training Programme
Trainees do 2 school placements. They start by observing lessons and progress through collaborative teaching with their Mentor to whole class teaching. Trainees build up to at least 12 hours teaching by the end of their training programme.
There are weekly Professional Studies sessions to address theory and consider the practical application to teaching and learning. This is also an opportunity for trainees to meet and share experiences.
Assessment is continuous, based on the trainee's performance in the classroom and on their E-portfolio which includes their professional and subject knowledge development. In addition Trainees have to complete one oral and 3 written assignments. Written assignments are posted onto and E Assessment portfolio and marked electronically.
Throughout the course, trainees build an E-portfolio of evidence to demonstrate that all Standards required for Qualified Teacher Status have been met. At the end of the course, trainees are assessed by an external assessor. If successful, they are then recommended for QTS.
Trainees are presented with their certificates at an award ceremony in July. 100% of our trainees gain employment as a teacher following successful completion of the course.
Selected candidates will be able to gain accreditation towards a Masters degree (60 credits).
Tuition Fees for academic year 2012/13:
From September 2012 tuition fees will be £9000 (subject to agreement from OFFA). Candidates can apply for a full or patial tuition fee loan up to £9000 from Student Finance England Directgov - this will be paid directly to BSC.
If you intend to pay the Tuition Fee privately, before the start of the course you will be informed of the due payment date. Full details will be in the contract you will receive if a place on the SCITT course is offered/accepted.
